When Wrestling Was Rasslin' eBook Wrestling Promoter Peter Birkholz
This is a very good history of pro wrestling in Houston, starting with the very beginning near the turn of the century and on through the golden years. The writing style is a little dry and I would have enjoyed more colorful stories of the eras. But many of the stories that are in there are entertaining and even heartwarming. The book does a good job covering history, so in any given era you'll know exactly who the top stars were and who was feuding with whom. I would have enjoyed more behind the scenes details and stories, though.Kayfabe is alive and well in this book and it often treats matches and angles as legitimate contests and grudges. Which may have been true in 1915 but was certainly untrue by the time we're hitting the golden days of the 70's. This can be either a good or bad thing depending on the reader.

When Wrestling Was Rasslin' eBook Wrestling Promoter Peter Birkholz Reviews
This is a great chronological overview of Houston Westling. There are almost yearly rosters and succinct stories tat can be read by any age group. It is almost refreshing to read a version of the wrestling business that recognizes deaths and misdeeds, but does not go into great detail about the fall of the wrestlers. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and learning about the promotion.
This is a good history of how wrestling became what it is today. The personal stories add much to the whole story of wrestling.
Brought back fantastic memories from my younger days as a wrestling fan. A very enjoyable and passionate firsthand account of how things used to be.
A must Read for any wrestling can or historian. Wish there were more stories and pictures, plus more facts and figures. Reading this piece has me spoiled. Thank you!
Birkholz' story could only be topped by Boesch himself. Though I was raised on Dallas wrestling, I could remember most of the names given from Houston Wrestling. Top talent!
Very entertaining! Author takes you back in time so the reader can once again enjoy the great stories of Houston Wrestling and When Wrestling was Rasslin'. I recommend the book for all professional wrestling fans who want to know more about the history of the business they have grown to enjoy.
